Painting your home is a big commitment so it’s important to get it right. It's not just about choosing a colour; it's about finding a colour that resonates with you, your style, and the atmosphere you want to create in your space. With so much choice it can be difficult to decide on the best colours for your home, so with that in mind I have gathered my personal favourite farrow and ball colours and I will share those with you here.
I love the array of colours that farrow and ball have to offer. Farrow and ball are renowned for their exceptional quality and unique approach to colour. Handcrafted in the UK, these paints are known for their depth, richness, and amazing pigments. They offer a stunning palette of colours, carefully curated to bring a sense of timeless elegance to any interior. Farrow & balls paints are made with water-based formulations, emphasizing eco-friendliness. Their extensive range of finishes and textures enable you to achieve the perfect look for your walls, whether you would like a bold statement or a soothing backdrop. These paints are a top choice for those who appreciate the art of colour and craftsmanship in interior design.
As a designer I love to create interiors that stand the test of time. I design with longevity in mind. So, I have selected the following colours because they are my favourite farrow and ball colours for creating a timeless design.
Firstly, for me the perfect farrow and ball neutrals would have to be the following:
Farrow and balls strong white
Strong white has a light grey undertone. It's a soft and serene shade that exudes a calm and inviting atmosphere. Unlike stark whites, strong white has a warmth and depth that make it perfect for creating a soothing backdrop in a variety of rooms. It pairs well with both traditional and modern décor, allowing you to achieve a timeless look. Whether used on walls, trim, or ceilings, strong white can bring a sense of understated beauty and sophistication to your space. Its versatility and ability to adapt to different lighting conditions make it a popular choice for those seeking a neutral colour that stands the test of time.
Farrow and balls skimming stone
This stony off-white takes its name from a 19th century skim, or plaster colour. Its warm light grey undertones help it pair harmoniously with a wide range of colours and materials, making it incredibly versatile. Whether used on walls, trim, or even cabinetry, skimming stone can adapt to your design preferences. It's a go-to colour for those who appreciate a classic and timeless look that can easily transition from traditional to contemporary aesthetics. Skimming stone brings an element of comfort and sophistication to any space, making it a designers favourite farrow and ball colour.
Next, because blue is one of my favourite choices in interiors, I have chosen a few of the best farrow and ball blue paints below:
Farrow and balls oval room ball
This beautiful paint colour is a rich shade of blue with green undertones. Its named after the attractively shaped rooms of the late 18th century and it captures that same sense of timeless beauty and refinement.
Oval room blue is a versatile choice for creating a sense of drama and luxury in your interior. Its complexity allows it to change its appearance depending on the lighting, revealing either a deeper, more dramatic blue or a softer, more muted greenish-blue. It pairs well with both neutral and warm accents, offering flexibility in your design choices. It is a good choice for anyone wanting to add a sense of timeless charm to their interiors.
Farrow and balls railings
This striking paint colour is a deep and moody shade of black with hints of blue. This makes it a softer alternative to black. Railings is a good choice for anyone looking to create a dramatic interior. It creates a sense of luxury, making it ideal for spaces where you want to make a strong design statement. This colour works well in various rooms, including living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms, and it can be used on walls or as an accent colour on doors and trims.
Despite its intensity, railings has a depth that prevents it from feeling harsh or overpowering. Its colour shifts with changes in lighting, revealing its blue undertones, which can create a softer and more inviting ambience.
Farrow and balls selvedge
I have to say I love this colour. It is a lighter, less grey version of farrow and balls De Nimes. It is good in low-light spaces, making it a good choice for bedrooms or evening rooms.
The perfect dark green:
Farrow and balls card room green
This paint colour is a rich and sumptuous dark green with a hint of grey. With its deep, sophisticated character, card room green is an excellent choice for those looking to create a cosy and intimate environment in their interiors. This colour is particularly well-suited for use in dining rooms, libraries, or living rooms, where you want to create a sense of tradition and comfort.
Card room green has a versatility that allows it to pair elegantly with various styles. In different lighting conditions, it can appear more muted or more vibrant, adapting to the unique character of your room. This rich green is a good choice for anyone who appreciates the charm of heritage-inspired interiors and would like to infuse their living space with a timeless feel.
Lastly, another colour I use regularly in projects and one of my all-time favourite farrow and ball colours is downpipe.
Farrow and ball downpipe
Downpipe is a deep, intense grey with subtle undertones of blue and green. Down pipe is a bold choice for those who want to make a design statement in their interiors. It creates a sense of drama and elegance. This colour works beautifully in various rooms, including living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms, and it can be used on walls, trim, or cabinetry to add a touch of sophistication. In my opinion it creates a great backdrop for cabinetry or a built-ins. Making your accessories pop against the dark shade.
Again it is another of farrow and balls colours that can change its appearance depending on the lighting, shifting between rich grey and a softer, almost silvery hue.
